The work of the Chamber is carried out by a small professional staff and directed by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from across the Overton County business community. Our board members are not honorary appointees. They set the strategic direction of the organization, they approve the budget, they serve on working committees, and they give their time because they have a stake in whether this county thrives.

Board of Directors

The Chamber is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership, with directors serving staggered terms so that the board carries forward institutional knowledge while regularly bringing in new perspective. The board reflects the breadth of the local economy and includes representation from manufacturing, healthcare, banking and finance, retail and hospitality, agriculture, education, professional services, and small business.

The Overton County Executive and the Mayor of Livingston serve as non-voting ex-officio members of the Board of Directors, which keeps the Chamber's work closely coordinated with the public partners who share responsibility for economic, community, and tourism development efforts.

How the Board Works

The Board of Directors meets quarterly and is supported by an Executive Committee that handles time-sensitive matters between full board meetings and by standing committees that carry the working load of the organization. Our standing committees include:

Serving on the Board

Directors are nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the membership. Nominees must represent a Chamber member business or organization in good standing and must be prepared to commit to regular meeting attendance, active committee service, and participation in Chamber events and advocacy efforts. The Chamber actively seeks board candidates who broaden the range of industries, geography, and experience represented around the table, because a board that looks like the whole county makes better decisions for the whole county.

Joint Economic and Community Development Board

The Joint Economic and Community Development Board is the body established under Tennessee law that brings the City of Livingston, Overton County government, and the business community together around economic development. The Chamber President & CEO serves as Chairman of the Board.

Tourism Advisory Board

Main Street Livingston Board of Directors

The Main Street Livingston Board of Directors governs Main Street Livingston as an independent 501(c)(3) corporation with its own bylaws, its own budget, and its own charitable mission focused on the downtown district. The Main Street Director is hired by the Board and sets the direction of the organization. The Chamber President & CEO has day-to-day oversight over the Main Street Director and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board.

Overton County Industrial Development Board

The Overton County Industrial Development Board is the public body responsible for the real estate, capital projects, and incentive structures that make industrial recruitment and expansion possible in Overton County. Created under Tennessee law to promote industry and develop trade, the IDB holds and markets industrial property, negotiates with prospects on behalf of the county, and administers the tools that bring new investment to the community. The Chamber President & CEO serves as Secretary.

Livingston Municipal Airport Board of Directors

The Livingston Municipal Airport is Overton County's connection to the air, and it is a bigger economic development asset than most people realize. Corporate site selectors, existing industry executives, and business travelers routinely evaluate a community by how easily they can get in and out of it, and a general aviation airport minutes from downtown puts Livingston on a list that many rural counties never make. The airport also supports agricultural aviation, medical transport, flight training, and the visitors who fly in for a weekend on Dale Hollow Lake.

The Livingston Municipal Airport Board of Directors oversees the operation, maintenance, and long-term development of the airport on behalf of the City of Livingston. The board sets policy for the facility, oversees fuel sales and hangar leases, manages relationships with the Tennessee Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division and the Federal Aviation Administration, and pursues the state and federal grant funding that pays for runway, lighting, apron, and hangar improvements. Board members serve as the airport's advocates in the community and work with the Chamber to make sure the airport is part of the story when Overton County is competing for jobs and investment.
